Insight
First-year festivals don't just need a logo, they need instant legitimacy. Tanglefoot launched with real ambition behind it: a two-day, two-stage country and barbecue festival backed by the City of Temple, headlined by Parker McCollum, Cody Jinks, Robert Earl Keen, and Randy Rogers Band, with more than 20 Texas artists and over a dozen of the country's most celebrated pitmasters. That's a serious lineup for an event nobody had heard of yet. In a category crowded with copy-paste "boots and smoke and guitars" branding, the real challenge was building trust, navigation, and hype fast, making a brand-new festival look like it had every right to book names that size, while still feeling unmistakably its own.
Solution
We built Tanglefoot as a full-scale brand world rooted in Texas tradition, designed to hit with modern impact. We led art direction and created an identity system that feels handcrafted, loud, and proudly regional: bold typography, vintage-inspired illustration, and a tight color palette built for speed, clarity, and recognition at every distance. From wayfinding and stage environments to merch, social, and web, every touchpoint was designed as part of one cohesive experience, easy to follow, impossible to ignore, and built to look like it had been a Central Texas tradition for twenty years instead of twenty days. The result gave a first-year festival the presence to match its lineup, a brand ready to headline right alongside the acts on the poster.
