Nelson Wire Rope

Nelson Wire Rope has been fabricating rigging, slings, and lifting gear in Hatfield, PA since 1979, a family-owned name the trades trust. Fried Design Company rebuilt the visual identity: a cleaned-up wordmark, a deep system of hand-drawn illustration, badges, and merch, and a new website. Same tough, family-run company, finally with a brand as built as the rope it sells.

Insight

Nelson Wire Rope makes the stuff other people's safety depends on. Slings, shackles, cable, and rigging for lifting, towing, and construction, family owned and operated in Hatfield, Pennsylvania since 1979. In a category full of forgettable industrial suppliers, Nelson had something rare: a real name, real history, and the trust of the trades. The identity just wasn't carrying its weight. The job was to give a company whose whole product is strength and craft a brand made of the same thing, drawn by hand, built to last, tough as the gear on the shelf.

Solution

We started with the wordmark. The old Nelson logo had good bones, so we sharpened rather than replaced it: a stronger arch, heavier weight, a cleaner "Wire Rope" script, and PA and US flanking the name so the American, Pennsylvania-made heritage reads at a glance. Same name people already knew, built to hit harder. From there we built a whole world around it. A deep system of hand-drawn illustration in the vintage American work-catalog tradition: a screaming eagle gripping an I-beam, a chained "NELSON" beam on a crane hook, riggers and linemen at work, a father and son, a wire-rope spool stamped ESTD 1979. Circular seals, a rope-bordered badge, a WNR monogram, a Pennsylvania-keystone hook mark, and a family of lockups gave Nelson a full kit for every surface, from a stamped stainless plate to a shop-wall sticker. Then we put it everywhere the trades actually look. Blacked-out business cards and stickers, embroidered patch caps and beanies, tees with the walking-rigger back print and the phone number set like a classified ad, matchbooks, keychains, and a new website to tie the whole thing together. The result gives a 45-year-old family rigging company a brand as tough and well-made as the rope it sells. Same Nelson. Built to hold.
