Insight

The canned cocktail shelf is a land grab, and most of it belongs to the giants. Ready-to-drink is one of the fastest-moving categories in beverage, which means it's crowded with brands that are quietly subsidiaries of the same few global conglomerates, all chasing the same trend. Horse Shoe is the opposite: independently owned, three real ingredients, natural ginger beer, natural lime, and Cody Road Iowa Vodka, and nothing to hide behind. The brand had to make that simplicity and independence feel like the point, not a limitation, and stand out on a shelf stacked with much bigger budgets.

Solution

We built Horse Shoe on what makes it different: honest, independent, and refreshingly uncomplicated. Three ingredients, no conglomerate, no gimmicks, a brand with the confidence to keep it simple while everyone around it shouts. The identity and packaging were built to own that straightforwardness and still command attention in the cooler, clean and bold enough to read as premium without pretending to be something it isn't. The strategy defined the voice, a little dry, a little cheeky, proudly independent, and it carried across the cans, the merch, advertising, and web into one cohesive brand. The result gave a small, independent cocktail maker a brand that punches with the big guys on the shelf and beats them on the one thing they can't fake: actually being independent.
