The Royal

The Royal. Our favorite tiniest music hall this side of the Mississippi. When they reached out to us to develop the brand for this awesome space with a classic Wes Anderson flair, we knew this had to be a spot that oozed personality. The brand uses several pieces of reference to Wes Anderson films and themes, but in an understated way, leaning on the Fox King mascot to lead the pack through to space.

Insight

The Royal is a tiny neighborhood music hall, our favorite smallest one this side of the Mississippi, with a big personality and not much square footage. Two things had to be true at once. The brand needed a specific point of view, the owners wanted a Wes Anderson flair, so it had to nail that mood without turning into cosplay or fan tribute. And the size of the room meant the brand couldn't just decorate, it had to help the space actually work. This was a case where branding and interior design and even the drink service had to solve problems together.

Solution

We built The Royal around a Wes Anderson sensibility played straight and understated: symmetrical, storybook, a little melancholy and a lot charming, referenced through the films rather than quoting them. The Fox King mascot leads the whole thing, giving a small room a big character to rally around across the identity, interior, menus, and packaging. Then the brand went to work on the space itself. With our friends at Good Spirits & Co., we developed bottled single-serve cocktails that are frozen, served, and returned to the bar after each use, a design-led fix for a room with no space to spare, folded right into the theme. Every surface got the treatment, so a rather small music hall felt like a fully realized world the second you walked in. The result gave The Royal a brand with real cinematic personality and a space that punches way above its footprint, distinctive enough to earn a feature in Feast Magazine.
