Brutally Refined

Here's a thing that's easy to get wrong about a design studio: people decide what you do based on what they can see, not what you actually did.

For years, what people saw from us was the surface. The logo. The packaging. The illustration that stops you in your tracks. All of that is real, and we're proud of it. But it was the last ten percent of the work, the part that shows up after the hard thinking is already done. The part that's easy to point at.

The other ninety percent happened before any of that. The positioning. The audience work. Figuring out what a brand actually stands for and what nobody else in the category is willing to say. That work has always been the foundation of everything we make. We just never made a big deal of showing it, so the market filed us under the thing it could see. Graphic designers. Good ones, expensive ones, but designers.

That was our miss, not the market's. If you don't say what you are, people will decide for you.

So this is us saying it. Fried Design Company is a brand strategy and design firm. We build brands from the idea out. The strategy, the positioning, the voice, the name, and then the identity and packaging and everything else that makes it real. Same building, same people, same work we've been doing since 2018. We're just done letting the strategy hide behind the design.

Why now? Because the work got too good to keep undersold. We won National ADDYs for a brand we built from a single idea. We've been hired by companies who already had the design handled and came to us for the thinking. We've watched clients grow because we helped them figure out who they were before we ever opened Illustrator. At some point the gap between what we do and what people think we do gets expensive, for us and for the clients who need the deep work and don't know to ask us for it.

Here's what this doesn't mean. It doesn't mean we're raising prices to sound fancy. It doesn't mean we've discovered strategy like it's a new toy. And it definitely doesn't mean we're leaving behind the craft that made our name. The illustration, the packaging, the shelf impact, that stays exactly where it is. It's just standing on top of the strategy now, out in the open, where it always was underneath.

We still work best with people who like to push buttons and make a statement. We still take the work dead seriously and ourselves a little less. What's changed is that when you come to us now, you'll see the whole thing. The idea and the execution, priced and scoped as what it always was: brand work, start to finish.

Brutal honesty, refined execution. Two words for how we've always done it, finally said out loud. Same hands, same standards. Almost Occult. FDC 4 Life.

Cheers,
